Kristy Janigo Honored at Minnesota United Halftime Show

Maple GroveKristy Janigo was selected to be honored at the Aug. 10 Minnesota United game halftime show for her work in veterans’ advocacy. The “Eye of the Loon” is an in-game recognition honor that Xcel Energy sponsors through its partnership with MNUFC. The honor, which takes place at halftime, recognizes veterans and active-duty military members within the community.

Janigo was invited to bring three guests to the game, where the Minnesota United took on Colorado. The final score was 2 to 1, with Colorado coming out ahead.

“My friends, husband, and I had never been to a Loons game,” said Janigo. “We had a lot of fun. We had great seats. It was stunning to see elite athletes moving with such skill across the field so close to us.”

Janigo said she was humbled to receive recognition for her work as a county veterans service officer with homeless and justice involved veterans.

“This work is sometimes hard. You see and hear many heartbreaks. You do lose people. But helping veterans is a righteous mission, and that’s what keeps me motivated,” said Janigo.

Kristy Janigo is third generation Army, a Maple Grove city council member, and candidate for
state senate district 37.
